Have you ever had a successful forum? How many members it had? How long have you worked on it? How long it took for it to come to life?  

Is it worth to post @promotion forums or they generate no new members, posts, content? 

I did. It was actually made by a friend, he has a lot of connections, making our forum popular everywhere. It was only a simple forum, we made it on one day. I think we had 5k members then... unfortunately, after two years of an active forum, my friend gone to vacation like 4 months, that's when the forum died.

We were partners of a radio station, it is dead now too. We only promoted it on some forums and on facebook. The forum though, its goal is not that reasonable, my friend made some codes to exploit games, maybe the reason it attracted peoples.

Basically his job is to make the 'hacks', and mine is to improve the forum. It was a tough job, that kind of forum makes lots of enemies, many tried to take down our forum. We managed, I asked friends to help me defend the forum.

Nah, not really. But my current forum is like a Phoenix ; it dies and rises again. Hopefully this time I can keep it going.

Well, I know a friend who had a really successful forum and it's still active to this day with 863 registered users (Although some are alts). It was started a few years ago from what I remember her telling me... either 3 or 2, although it could be going on 4.

Her and I did start another forum sometime in September although it's not as active yet... and is actually kinda dead at the moment, whoops. '^^

@Terran, that's unbelievable! I would think 5k members can generate content and activity even when the admin is gone for a period.  Revive it!  

@Ange Tuteur, since you quitted from your Forumotion support job I think many people will follow you and join your forum and it will shine. You provide many great features and extras that will lure many members!  And you're a Forumotion celebrity, so that's a plus point too. :'D

I had only 1 forum before and it was for the local players of a game, basically like a clan forum, so it wasn't to big. We lost many members, due to moving from one forum to another, till we found Forumotion and settled. Aand the game shut down, so our forum died with it. Sad end.

Yea but I don't think my friend is still up for it, since he is working on some company now.

my main forum has 1932 members is about blog solutions ... at first we had a lot chat members now is all about questions and answers but for its ok ..thats my point ...i prefer members or visitors to come read and find solutions than chat all day pointless

Yes, my forum is successful!I working on it for like 3 years and it has over 2500 members.

It's about a racing simulator(Gaming).Mods, textures, help and etc.

Hmm thats a complicated question. But my forum looks like a switch or binary enumeration system (0/1) sometimes is up and sometimes is down.
